[Solved] Installing OpenOffice 4.1.3

Post by DaveMcJ »

Operating on Windows 10 and previously using version 4.1.2.
Installation of version 4.1.3 was interrupted and I now get the following message each time I try to run setup:
"The wizard was interrupted before OpenOffice 4.1.3 could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."
I'm now unable to use either version or open any files. Any suggestions?

Bill is the thread you cited the answer to my "Wizard interupted....." problem? I believe that thread says to keep repeating my attempts to install and eventually it will do so? Is that the solution?

For me the answer was to open Windows Task Manager and kill all tasks running in OO, then the setup ran fine.

Forgive me Dave. But it is not solved for me. I opened my windows task manager and cannot find any OO tasks running. To avoid more hassle I went out and bought an Open Office 4.1.2 from Amazon to install. I got the same error message with it also. What do I need to do to install either of these Open Office programs. (I am using windows 10. I am also a tech dummy.)

I think that somewhere in TaskManager there is a link to "Show processes from all users" This may show up other running soffice processes.

My left hand column in my Task Manager has "Background Processes" (33 of them) and below those is "Window Processes" (31 of them). In this column and the "Details" column I can see no Open Office or Apache items.

The processes are called "soffice".

I do not have it on either processes or details. The install wizard just stops and nothing happens other than saying the wizard was interrupted. This is making me crazy!

The drastic solution is to uninstall OpenOffice using Revo uninstaller at its most aggressive, restart computer, then do a fresh install of OpenOffice.

Thus losing the History of my commonly used, and continuously updated, documents. This has happened already once with my OOo 4.1.2, even though I hadn't yet downloaded and tried to perform the upgrade to OOo 4.1.3 .

Is this upgrade vital? If I don't do the upgrade will experience any losses of vital information

The Recent Documents list is merely a quick access to the last ten used documents. This list can be rebuilt by using /File /Open, navigating to the locations where they are stored and opening them once again. You will probably notice little (if any) difference between OO 4.1.2 and 4.1.3 An upgrade from 4.1.2 to 4,1.3 will not lose the list.

Sorry to necro this post when it's already marked as solved but I had the same exact issue as the OP on my laptop and fixed it by doing the following:

Restarted. Then immediately opened up the installation files folder on my desktop that saved automatically when the previous install failed before the restart. Opened up the setup.exe to install, and used the custom installation rather than the typical installation. I didn't change anything in the custom install but clicked through and let it install.

For some reason, that combination of things worked and 4.1.3 installed perfectly. Hope that helps!

hemuloki63, you are a lifesaver! I was having the same problem installing 4.1.5 and your "workaround" worked perfectly. Kudos and many thanks.
