Hi-jacked search engine

I installed OpenOffice 4.1.1 on my backup computer, running Windows XPSP3. My default search engine, Duckduckgo was replaced by OpenOffice as my search engine. I tried to get back Duckduckgo, but no luck. How can I permanently remove OpenOffice from my search box?
Also, is it possible to install Writer with out installing the whole OpenOffice suite?

If you downloaded from the main site http://www.openoffice.org/download this should not have happened. Downloading from other sites often gives unwanted interference with other programs - I suggest you remove the current OO, run antivirus and malware checks, then install from a fresh download only from the above site. What Internet browser are you using?

You can do a custom install of OpenOffice and install only Writer, but the space saving is minimal, as the program's components are so integrated; you may also lose some functionality.

The official Apache OpenOffice (the current version which will be downloaded by default from the official download site is 4.1.2, not 4.1.1) doesn't have an Internet search engine and doesn't change the user's search engine. Where did you get your "open office"?

Nor does Libreoffice as far as I can determine.

Many of the OO versions from irregular sources have been modified to hijack the browser search engine; such hijacking can be quite difficult to remove and may also include trojans and keyloggers. I have not heard of a hijack that used OpenOffice as the search engine, but I do advise removal, disinfection of the computer, and installation of an OpenOffice only from the official site (which will be redirected to a nearby SourceForge site).

I got it from the official web site. The enigma exists when you download OO 4.1.2 onto an older machine running Win XP. Try it when you have a sufficient poke of weed to sooth your frazzled nerves. If possible, see my previous "Quotes". Good luck.

I downloaded and installed AOO 4.1.2 earlier today from the official site. I didn't need any luck because there was no such enigma. Your old version of XP may have already been compromised and redirected to a different site. AOO 4.1.1 hasn't been the default download for Windows for almost a year.
