[Solved] Windows 10 and 4.1.1 compatibility
Now that Windows 10 is out I need a simple, straight answer from someone. Will Open Office work under the Windows 10 system ? Nothing fancy or with ton's of qualifying criteria. Just this; will OO 4.1.1 work under 10 or do I have to go and convert totally to LINUX ?

Yes, it does. Of course, you should switch to Linux for other reasons.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Re: Windows 10 and 4.1.1 compatibility
I haven't had any compatibility issues using AOO 4.1.1 on Windows 10.
You should backup your data files before starting the upgrade just in case the upgrade itself has problems.

I have Windows 10, trying to install Open Office 4.1.1 and am getting this message. Can anyone help?

Re: Windows 10 and 4.1.1 compatibility
The message is indicative of a corrupt download. Download a fresh copy from http://www.openoffice.org/download/. If that doesn't solve the problem see http://nsis.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/i ... ldid=21726.travlinmoman wrote:I have Windows 10, trying to install Open Office 4.1.1 and am getting this message. Also use Forum search (top right of Forum Window" to search for NSIS; this problem has come up on the Forum before.

Re: Windows 10 and 4.1.1 compatibility
I have Windows 10 and upgraded my OpenOffice to 4.1.1.
Only to find that I can no longer edit any of my OpenOffice files, they all show read only and I need Administrator permission... I am the administrator, then it asks do I want to save in the Documents Folder instead, when I say yes, the file is nowhere to be found. I'm starting to find Win. 10 issues in other programmes.
Anyone tell me how I can get access and change my OpenOffice files?

Re: Windows 10 and 4.1.1 compatibility
Some searching found this
and later in the same thread some further help if the above didn't work1. Right click an affected folder.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the Security tab
4. Click the "Advanced" button.
5. Click "Change" next to Owner.
6. Type your username, click the "Check Names" button, then click OK.
7. Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" under the owner's name.
8. Click OK again. If you get a message saying "Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you full control?", click "Yes" and you're done.
9. Click the "Edit" button.
10. Click on your username from the list.
11. Check "Full control" underneath it.
12. Click OK.
13. Click OK again.
Repeat with all of the problematic folders.
I have not used either of the above, so cannot vouch for them....Go to the folder properties > Security (as mentioned above) but instead of clicking advanced, edit the permissions for 'Home Users' and 'Administrators'. Make sure 'Allow' is ticked for all options by using the 'Edit' button.

Re: Windows 10 and 4.1.1 compatibility
RoryOF. Firstly MANY thanks for your very kind help. I couldn't get past step 7. However with your kind input, from Step 4, I clicked on the user name I wish to use, then clicked EDIT, then clicked FULL CONTROL, then clicked OK all the way back out, It looks like it is working, I will have to do this for every one of my OpenOffice files. Whu Windows 10 changed them ALL to read only is beyond me.
Once again let me thank you for helping me get this resolved.
Incidentally, Windows 10 has also stopped my HP Officejet 6500A from sending scans to my document files!! Have you any ideas on that one? lol.. Many thanks.

Re: Windows 10 and 4.1.1 compatibility
The only suggestion I can make about the HP unit is to check with HP support.
It might be that if you try the supplemental piece of information in my posting, you can change the permissions of the directories involved; which ought be quicker than having to handle each file individually. I don't use Window 7/8/10 at all, and Windows 2000/XP only for (rare) access to historical files.
Edit: The HP problem is probably also a permissions problem, but what permissions and how to fix I cannot suggest. |

Probably you may have to wait for newer drivers.

Re: Windows 10 and 4.1.1 compatibility
Many thanks again. Seems like there are a few others with the same issue.. I should have stuck with Win 8 for awhile...
Thanks.
P.S. Your other kind input on using the supplemental information, fixed all my read only OpenOffice files.. Thanks.
