I am having trouble with print screen/screenshots/screen capture. I have OpenOffice 4.0.1 running on Windows 7
I have tried pressing (F11) alone and in combination with Ctrl, Alt, Ctrl and Alt. on screen or window. I open Draw and the paste option isn't even active (greyed out).
Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Janine and welcome to the AOO forums. In Windows its Alt and Prnt Scrn key to capture a screen shot. The other options i to Use the Snippy Tool built into Windows 7. Using either I am able to cut and paste into Draw. The Snippy Tool is more flexible than a Prnt Scrn. If you use an image editor you have even more flexibility.

Thanks, but it turns out I have to press the Fn button. Even the microsoft.com video doesn't mention the function button.

My keyboard doesn't require the use of the Fn key for Prnt Scrn. Clearly a difference in the hardware. What type of machine do you have?

I think that the Fn keys are mainly on laptops which reduce the number of keys by using one key to perform two functions. The first function is performed when the Fn key is not depressed. The second function is performed when the Fn key is depressed. This should be covered in the owner's manual for the machine. For example, the Compaq laptop I used for a few years combined the Home key and the "Home" and "prt sc" functions on one key. Pressing the key without the Fn key was "Home". Pressing the key with the Fn key was "prt sc". Standard desktop keyboards don't have a Fn key.

I have Dell Laptop and the Fn is not required to use Prnt Scrn. It is needed for other functions such as Scroll Lk. So it varies by mfg and possibly even with in mfg.
