[Solved] Error when installing 4.1.1 on Windows 8

Downloaded 4.1.1 twice and received same error message shortly after the install begins both times:

"key not valid for use in specified state"

i click the "OK" button, which is the only option! And then the installation terminates.

I suspect you have downloaded a version of OpenOffice from an unapproved (hence potentially dangerous) site.

Download only from
http://www.openoffice.org/download
which will redirect you to SourceForge servers where the files are kept. There is no validation key needed to install such a download.

A quick query suggests this is to do with RSACryptoServiceProvider. One site I visited indicates that one should delete the content of

C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
The poster says
"Deleted content in the above location, and the problem is resolved"

I think this was on a Mac site, so the exact path may differ.

Having the same problem, deleting KB 2918614 also solved it for me.

Checking/Deleting RSA encryption did not.

When I was happy to reload OO I then reinstalled KB2918614 update and all was then fine.

Look for "View installed updates" in Control Panel > Programs or try searching for "view installed updates". It was installed 15 Aug 2014 on my Windows 8.1 system, but I have not encountered this error when installing AOO 4.1.1 or any other software.
