[Solved] JRE error Windows 8.0 64bit while creating base

Post by beaslbob »

I installed OO on a new computer from my Son and was showing it off when I get the jre error while creating a database.

I have tried downloading the latest jre

and ms c++ redistributables (v10 I think)

still getting error.

Anything I can do?

You need 32-Bit Java
R
  • MMove 1.0.6
  • Extension for easy, exact positioning of shapes, pictures, controls, frames ...
  • my current system
  • Windows 11 AOO, LO | Linux Mint AOO, LO

If it is a new computer it most probably has a 64 bit operating system. At present OpenOffice for Windows is 32 bit (runs OK on 64(, but it needs a 32 bit Java, which you can install (from memory, flagged as i586 on Java site under Legacy versions). Then go to OpenOffice /Tools /Options /OpenOffice/ Java, wait a few seconds for the Javas on your computer to show, then check the checkbox beside the 32 bit version and OK out. All should then be well. You may need to completely restart OpenOffice for this to take - I'm not certain.

As stated above.

AOO/LO for windows is a 32bit application and needs a Java 32bit to interact.
Both versions of Java (32bit and 64bit) can be installed alongside one another on a 64bit OS.

Using AOO/LO v4+ with Java v1.7 (32bit) both utillise their own installation of the MSVCR C++ 2010 runtime libraries.
Make sure you have installed the 32bit version. Again installing 32bit and 64bit MSVCR C++ 2010 runtime libraries at
the system level should cause no fundamental problems.

Installing the MSVCR C++ 2010 runtime shouldn't be necessary on Windows 8 or 8.1. I did have to install it on Vista, but I've never installed it on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and I don't get any JRE errors.

Thanks to all.

downloading and installing the 32 bit jre solved the problems.

FWIW in case anyone is old enough to remember.

I was doing mail merges with wordstar and dbase. I know we try to get wizards to do everything and the undoubtably help, this old guy just gets somewhat confused. LOL
