Hi and welcome,

Can you give the exact error message? Is it "The application cannot be started. The interface language cannot be determined."? There are 2 threads about that here but no follow up.

What version are you trying to install? With or without Java? What is your Windows version? See the Survival Guide for the forum.
AOO 4.1.7 on Xubuntu 20.04 and 4.1.5 on Windows 10 (with winPenPack port).

I know this thread is a bit old... however I just learned an interesting lesson that perhaps may be of help to the community.

I had accidentally changed my permissions so that I could not read the .openoffice.org2 directory. It also caused a crash. Below is the backtrace...

Fixing the permissions allowed open office to behave properly again.

Thanks,
Chris

What version are you trying to install? With or without Java? What is your Windows version? See the Survival Guide for the forum.

I have the same issue, and I don't know what to do. The two threads that are already on here aren't even helpful to me because they don't even resolved completely.

I am trying to use (I already installed) version 3.1 RC 1, and I get the "The application cannot be started. The user interface language cannot be determined" error every time I try to start this application. The installation is without Java, and I have XP Service Pack 2 (I had tried to do this same situation when I upgraded my OS to Service Pack 3 for XP before rolling the OS back to its original state).

I just tried to see if changing the user account settings on my computer would help with no positive results.
