DDE links aren't working with Win 7 64 bit OS

I've been an active user of openoffice's DDE links tied to my online brokerage account. I just recently upgraded from Win xp to Win7 64 bit O.S. Unfortunately, they aren't working with either the most recent version of openoffice 3.4 or the prior version 3.2. Perhaps, I need to update something else in my system or turn to an even earlier version of openoffice. Does anyone else have any solution or suggestions to correct this problem?

It is possible (speculation!) that the problem arises from 32 bit OpenOffice not linking DDE to 64 bit Windows 7. You might look at a Microsoft site, questioning whether 32 bit DDE links correctly to 64 bit Windows 7.

A guy working at the source of the DDE links told me that an Excel fix for the problem I'm having is:
Close the Excel program
2. Right-click on the Excel.exe icon on your desktop
3. Click on Properties
4. Click on the Compatibility tab
5. Click Change settings for all users
6. Enable the run this program as an administrator box
7. Click Ok and restart excel.

I followed these same instructions exactly with openoffice's spreadsheet program but didn't arrive a fix. Wish I knew why the above instructions work with excel and not openoffice.
