It didn't make Writer unstable here, but pasting from a webpage is seldom very satisfactory. Try either paste special, plain text, or save the webpage to disk with images, and open the HTML file from OpenOffice. That works OK for me.

I had the trouble with 2.3.0 and 2.3.1 on 98. I was trying to delete the extra table rows that it generated and it just locks up after a few. When I go to save the file it would always lock up.
Seems to me like there might be some formatting characters or something it does not know what to do with. Doing the same with other websites worked fine. I would not put it past M$ to have found something like that and specifically set up front page to break other editors. That is the only thing that keeps them on top these days if you do not take into consideration their force feeding their poison to the sheep.
