[Solved] Won't recognize Java on XP
[Solved] Won't recognize Java on XP
Freshly downloaded Ooo 3.4.1 does not properly recognize freshly downloaded JRE v7 update 9 on XP. Correct location for JRE appears to be selected in Ooo Options, though oddly it's shown as version 1.7.0_90. JRE appears to be working correctly in Chrome browser test. I installed Ooo first, then updated JRE when I got the message that I had a defective version. I've restarted Ooo and rebooted a couple of times, and uninstalled a copy of JavaFX. Any suggestions?

Re: Won't recognize Java on XP
What is the architecture of Java? 32 or 64bit? AOO under Windows need the 32bit version. You can install it in parallel to the 64bit version.

Re: Won't recognize Java on XP
Java doesn't report whether it's 32 or 64 bit, bit since it runs under 32-bit XP I presume the Java is also 32 bit.

Try to reset your OpenOffice user profile and check the JRE in the options (Tools>Options>OOo>Java).

Re: Won't recognize Java on XP
It needs to be Java 6, 32 bit, because some of the entry points were changed in Java 7 (ditto in Java 64)
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.15 on Xubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
Re: Won't recognize Java on XP
Install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) . Java 7 won't run when started from AOO ON SOME SYSTEMS which don't have this redistributable package installed.

Re: Won't recognize Java on XP
Thanks. Going back to Version 6 of java did the trick.
Note that there will be no further updates of Java 6 after Feb 2013. Ooo needs to be updated to use Java 7.

It should already work with Java 7. See my previous post and the Known Issues section in the AOO 3.4.1 (build 1372282) Release Notes .bobdecon wrote:Note that there will be no further updates of Java 6 after Feb 2013. Ooo needs to be updated to use Java 7.

I can confirm that installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) is indeed needed to enable the Java functionality. There is a version included with the installer (vcredist.exe) which I think is the 2005 version. I am using Java 1.7.09 without any problem. You can install the 32bit alongside the 64bit version of Java and Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages if you have a 64bit OS. Currently, I am using Win7 64 bit, as well as the Linux box in my signature.Bill wrote:It should already work with Java 7.
