this is the problem ...
i cant access the files that are saved in a shared network location from an other pc of the network .
i can copy/cut/save the documents but i cant open them by double clicking them ...
i can open them only by copying them to my pc or if i start openoffice manually in my pc and follow"open file" "browse" etc
when i double click a shared document located somewhere in the network the logo of the open office is apperaring seems like its loading ,after 2secs it disappear ,but noting is opening neither the document neither the openoffice writer at all
OS : all pcs, Win XP
openoffice 2.4 greek version (had older version but the result was the same, that was the reason i upgrated to 2.4)
also tryied from different locations and pcs ,same result.
the result is the same by trying opening older docs or docs created by 2.4version

Re: accesing openoffice documents in a network place
There are two workaround you can choose. It may not be too bad:
1. Instead of using UNC path like (\\server_name\path\filename.odt) map to a drive letter like X:\
2. Change the UNC path name to not include underscores in path names

Re: [Solved] accesing openoffice documents in a network place
For the record, bug 53814 is marked fixed for OpenOffice.org 3.0.0, so you should already see the fix in OpenOffice.org 3.0 beta 1. The workarounds will no longer be necessary.

Re: [Solved] Accessing OpenOffice documents in a network place
Unfortunately it's not fixed. Using the version downloaded today. It imported my My Documents path as
\\server\users\rpesek
When I try to save a new file, one that does not have a name yet, I get an "Access Denied" message because it's trying to save the file in \\server\users , where in fact I do not have access.
When I acknowledge the error message it pops up the file save dialog box and it has prefilled in a file name of rpesek
So it's parsing the UNC path incorrectly. If I change the My Documents location to a mapped drive letter, it works as expected.
FWIW,
Ray
