Can't Download OpenOffice
Re: Can't Download OpenOffice
More details, please. Where did you go to download? What did you try to download? What happened?
Re: Can't Download OpenOffice
If you choose the non-default smaller download (without "Include the Java JRE..."), it takes about 4-5 hours to download OpenOffice.org for Windows via dial up on a good day. If you don't check that box, it takes a little longer.
If you cannot wait that long or if your Internet connection is not reliable, consider buying a CD-ROM. I hear they're cheap.

The current version is 2.4, updated from 2.3.1.blazenstar1313 wrote:I can't get Open to download. I have DIAL-UP Could anyone help me? I am not very computer smart. Any help would be appreciated

You could download overnight and have it ready for you at breakfast ?
Are your friends similarly on dialup? Do you or they have a CD writer on the computer? Here is says that you can burn your own CDs and give them away (it easily fits on one with tons or room left over):

I bet someone you know has it. Version 2.3.1 is pretty good if you can't get 2.4. Don't consider anything older, though (in my opinion).
Re: Can't Download OpenOffice
Try the Sun Download Manager. It splits the file into parts that can download simultaneously, and it will resume an interrupted download. You can just drag-and-drop the download link into it. You can either use it online or download and run it locally.
(I have no affiliation with Sun. I'm just an OOo user who also likes the SDM utility.)

Re: Can't Download OpenOffice
I had the same problem using Firefox which has problems downloading from other sites. I used IE6 and had no problem.
Re: Can't Download OpenOffice
Firefox 3.0 will be using a different download manager with capabilities similar to the one I posted. But you don't have to use Firefox's built-in downloader (which seems to be a sort of default for people who don't find their own). You can also use the FlashGot extension to specify your preferred download manager.whbos wrote:I had the same problem using Firefox which has problems downloading from other sites.
