[Solved] Openoffice wont start

i´ve been using open office 2.0 for a fair while now, and never had a problem. i downloaded 2.3, got rid of 2.0 and now open office wont open. the .exe files on all the applications when clicked just show 5 seconds of egg timer and nothing happens. i´ve tried to open openoffice from the program files, the first title screen (whatever its called) appears then disappears and a box appears telling me it cant open due to an 'internal error'.
i´m running xp home on an english harddrive, spanish motherboard and American OS. i have used all the geekspeak that i have in my head writing this post so please assume i´m stupid in any replies.

Close OOo and Quickstarter, try to rename your OOo user profile (Documents and settings\<user>\Application data\OpenOffice.org2).
