Lost Printer Connection

First let me say I'm new here and to the software. The spreadsheet program is great--features, compatability with my current spreadsheets which include MS Works, Excel and 602Software. After I installed 3.0 my computer no longer recognized my printer. (Running XP Home sp/3) I reinstalled the printer software and again the software loaded but it still told me no printer connected. Actually, at the point in the installation of the printer software where it tells me to connect the usb cable the installation stops and a connection is never recognized. I uninstalled Open Office, reinstalled the printer and everything was fine. I hope someone can help me as I would like to use this software. MS Works came with the computer and it is way short on features; I use 602 Software on my old computer but it is no longer supported or available. My computer is an Asus eeePC 1000HA netbook.
My printer is a Kodak ESP 5. Thanks.
