[Solved] 1500 error: Another installation is in progress

Post by Alan Rymer »

I am trying to install the latest version of Open Office on my computer for the first time. I downloaded the installation file and tried t o set it up but I keep getting the 1500 error message that says another installation is in progress and I must complete the installation before continuing with the one but there is no other installation running and I cannot even try uninstall as there are no files for Open Office installed on my computer yet. Please can someone help me out as to how I can get this error sorted and the application fully installed.

Start TaskManager (Ctrl Shift Esc) and kill all soffice bin processes shown on TaskManager's tabs. Then try an install from your downloaded file.

There is no such file open in Task Manager unless it is running under a different name

It is many years since I used Windows, but my memory is that there may be a link at bottom of TaskManager Window saying words to the effect "show processes for all users"

Your screenshot is hardly readable. No need to put it in a PDF. Hit the Print screen key, paste it in a picture manager and crop it. Saving as .jpg usually takes it down below the 128KiB limit of this forum.

There may be another application being installed too.
Not really a solution but you can try to install another application just to see. I wonder if LibreOffice installer is also prone to this kind of problem.

Much better screenshot!
But nothing special to report...

I have been able to install other applications such as Adobe and Google Chrome while this problem has persisted. It is only Open Office that I am having issues getting fully installed.

Make sure you shut down the computer completely, as in turn off; by default Windows 10 doesn't do a complete shutdown but a quick restart. See e.g. https://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pr ... rtup-mode/ for more information.

The problem was solved by disabling the Fast Start-Up setting (https://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pr ... rtup-mode/) and then shutting down the computer and once it was off, unplugging the power supply, waiting for about a minute and then plugging it in and power on my computer and following the setup again.
