Hey everyone,
I found the java FAQ and tried to follow those directions already. I then searched this forum and the most recent discussion was in 2017. I am wanting to try my hand at building a simple (I hope) multi-table relational database inside AOO Database, but it wanted a JRE. I hadn't installed one yet on this computer, so I went and grabbed the latest version of Java.com, then realized I was using AOO 4.1.7, so I installed 4.1.11 thinking that by doing so, it would let me point it to the JRE I just installed. No go. It didn't show up on the list, so I clicked Add, went to the path shown in the java control panel app which leads to the bin subfolder, but it didn't matter which of the folders inside the path I pointed to, AOO refuses to accept it, saying there is no JRE installation in that path anywhere. The path is in C:\\program files\Java\
The 2017 discussion ended with the OP choosing to wait for further updates. Is AOO still not recognizing JRE's in the windows operating system? Is there another database system I should be attempting to use instead? (I don't use any MS products other than the OS)

Did you install the 32 bit version of Java as mentioned in Troubleshooting Open/LibreOffice and Java?

Re: AOO not recognizing latest version of JRE
I hadn't seen that info as I was trying to find info as close to the current year as possible. I installed 64bit java. I'll find the 32bit. Thanks. Someone needs to put that into the faq on the subject, as the faq didn't mention 64 or 32bit.

Re: AOO not recognizing latest version of JRE
You'll notice that page says "Are you sure that you have the right version of Java installed? Please check the release notes for the version of OpenOffice you have installed". I note that in the release notes for AOO 4.1.11 there is this:
I presume that the bitness is not mentioned in the link you gave as it will be inappropriate in that context once a 64 bit version of AOO is released. For Windows Users
- Apache OpenOffice supports Java 8 (32-bit), which is the recommended configuration; but (especially on 64-bit Windows) you might receive warnings about the Java version being defective. In that case, download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019.
- NOTE: You MUST have a 32-bit Java Runtime Environment (JRE) even on a 64-bit machine.

Re: AOO not recognizing latest version of JRE
I don't know many who read release notes, but thanks for pointing that out.

I agree that it should be changed on the wiki page.
You can mail the dev mailing list, maybe someone will update the page.

However, did you use the original website to download the 4.1.11 version for Windows?
That site provides:
- sort of button "Important hints for Windows 32-bit (x86) (EXE)"
- the link "Java and Apache OpenOffice".
