[Solved] Windows 10 bottom task bar

Post by OOO1 »

I just upgraded from OpenOffice 7 to 10 using Windows 10. Bottom of my desk top home screen I had a quick link to open OO7. I installed OO10 and on desktop screen there was a new link with those white seagulls and blue background. I deleted same tiny image to OO7 in task bar and dragged desktop OO10 quick link image to task bar.
An hour later after restarting task bar image is page shape with a bend corner in upper right.
So.
How do I get blue background with seagull image link icon to OO10 on task bar and remove page image?

If you open your Windows start menu, begin to type "apache" or "openoffice", does it show any blue orb with the seagulls? If so, you should be able to right click it and select Pin to taskbar.
Then right click the page icon and unpin it.

Note: I guess you mean AOO 4.1.7 to 4.1.10.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the *EDIT button if your issue has been fixed.

There is no AOO 7 nor AOO 10. It is 4.1.7 or 4.1.10.
You'll hardly get further help this way.

This is a rotten Windows problem. If right-click>Detach from taskbar fails for some reason, try to use the white icon. Click on it and if/when Windows complains that the icon is somewhat invalid and should be removed, click "Yes".
Then drag a valid blue icon onto the bar.
I have seen this with many programs that are attached to the task bar and update regularly. The problem occurs even when the location of the executable does not change during an update. Must be some entry in the registry which makes the difference between a valid and an invalid task bar icon.

Remove it and pin the blue orb instead.

No wonder if the link has been broken by the update. I guess that Windows has noticed the change in the .exe.
The point is: are you able to drag the blue orb from the desktop to the taskbar???
Else, AOO should appear in the Windows start menu. From there, you should be able to pin it on the taskbar.

I fixed it. Life is so much better now.
Do a search for
How do I change Taskbar Icon picture going back to July 5, 2016
I found where new version of AOO is and clicked on it to make a short cut, that short cut went to my desktop. Then I clicked on it and sent it to task bar, see below.
I started this reply before thinking to restart computer. I hope it stays there.
Thanks

I am running OpenOffice 4.1.10. I tried some of the solutions. Thank you for them. Some were too complicated for me so I went to the soffice.exe file and dragged it to the taskbar. The Open Office seagulls have returned. However, there are two clicks required rather than a one click before the application starts. Before, with the previous version of Open Office only one click was required. I am now asked "Do you want allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?"
The thing is, it works. Thanks everyone!
