[Solved] AOO installs on two disk drives (C: and D:)
[Solved] AOO installs on two disk drives (C: and D:)
I have 2 SSD drives (C:& D:) and I have tried 3 times to install AOO on D; drive but although the install appears sucessful i.e app runs as expected, I find that the installation appears to have been spread over both drives - each show an "OpenOffice 4" folder containing numerous files, in the ProgramFiles (x86) folder on both drives.
Is this normal and what would happen if I move the files from one drive (C:) to the other?

Re: Dual drive problem
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Why would you have a ProgramFiles (x86) folder on both drives?
Note that installing elsewhere than the standard Windows root drive (usually C) is not always successful.

Re: Dual drive problem
Did you attempt to make a "Custom" installation? I understand that is the best approach.

Yes- selected D:\ProgramFiles(x86)\OpenOffice 4 as destination, having created necessary folder on D: drive - installation proceeded without a hitch and as I stated, when desktop shortcut was clicked, prog worked fine - my existing AOO s/sheets and docs opened as normal

Re: Dual drive problem
I've never needed an intall of OpenOffice on a second drive, but my memory from reading about this is that there are stub files on the C drive, with the main files on the D drive. Check the folder sizes; if C OO folder is much less than D OO folder, that is the case.

Re: Dual drive problem
Personally, I would not have given a folder in an additional drive the same name than the one used by the OS. It may be confusing for the application. But that's just a guess.
Is your C drive that small??? Not sure you'll gain that room, even if the whole application had been installed on the C drive.

Rory - take your point about duplicate folder names. Will change folder name, uninstall and try a reinstall to see if this cures it.

Re: Dual drive problem
While not dual SSD's, I run OpenOffice off of a secondary drive with no problems.
I used E:\OpenOffice
My D drive is pre-allocated for my blu-ray writer.

Re: Dual drive problem
Nope - same result even without the ProgramFiles(x86) folder - same proprtion and exactly the same file split between both drives. But here's a funny thing that I just noticed - the C drive is Disk 1 and the D drive is Disk 0 - should be the other way round surely.

Re: Dual drive problem
You're right, they should be the other way around.
Been too long since I had to do that kind of work in Windows, but it can be switched.
I'll reply with details later if needed.

Re: Dual drive problem
I would not suggest changing that order, as you would probably have to reinstall everything.

Re: Dual drive problem
Morning guys - well I took the plunge and moved all the files on C; to D; and guess what - everything is fine.Have tested thoroughly loading/saving s/s, w/d and drawings.
Thanks for all your input - sometimes there is just no obvious answer to the vagaries of Win 10

Re: [Solved] Dual drive problem
Thanks for the follow-up. Interesting that the installation splits the files in the first place and then that moving all of them in a single one (the one specified during the custom install) works just fine.
