[Solved] Cant open recent text and spreadsheet files

Windows 10 running AOO 4.1.8. Trying to open some files returns error msg: “The operation on E:\path ........doc was started with an invalid parameter.” Files were saved as MSWord60.doc (were originally created with AOO 4.1.7 ~ 1.5kb) Is there any alternative way to open/salvage them? Numerous similar files open ok. Suggestions? TNX

Also, if one must have .doc files, Word 97/2000/XP is a better format. It is best to always work in OpenOffice's native format (.odt for text documents) and Save the finished document as Word 97/2000/XP, if you cannot send a PDF file.

Thanks. Will save that way from now on. But I am REALLY wanting to recover the files I cannot open now.

Are there many such troublesome files?

You could try using
http://www.zamzar.com
free online service to convert these to .odt format.

It may be that these particular files have become corrupt, particularly if transferred from an older computer. Until you have retrieved the data within them, under no circumstances should you Save over them - use a different name.

It may be that using advanced tools or a different operating system, the internal data in the file can be recovered, possibly without formatting. Try looking at them using a Hex editor, but remember not to Save using the original file name.

Is drive E: a mapped network drive? If so, try transferring the file(s) to a local drive.

I copied files to desktop and they open no problem. Have saved all to .odt format. SOLVED!
