[Solved] Cannot install JRE in OpenOffice 4.1.7 on Windows 10. Have installed both 32-bit and 64-bit JRE but both give message 'The folder you selected does not contain a Java runtime environment'. The folders I've tried are C:/Program Files/Java/jre 1.8.0_261 and C:/Program Files (x86)/Java/jre 1.8.0_261.

The correct path is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_261
I would first try restarting OpenOffice or even rebooting the computer simply because I do not know what else to do. Does that folder seven files and three sub folders?

I've switched to LibreOffice so the problem is now resolved.

I no longer use Windows, so I don't know why this would happen in 4.1.7. This did happen in 4.1.3. I reported it as a bug and it was fixed in 4.1.4. A workaround for the problem in 4.1.3 is here:

The one that installs in C:\Program Files\

The 32-bit JRE is installed in C:\Program Files\ on 32-bit Windows 10. On 64-bit Windows10, the 32-bit JRE is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\ and the 64-bit JRE is installed in C:\Program Files\.

Thanks. I stand corrected, I checked a message that gave the difference before. But I got misled by a corner case in that (x86) folder that is eventually the good one.
