Cannot open new text documents or folders

Hi,

The O/S is W8.1 & the problem is that I cannot add new text files, folders, etc. My existing copy of OpenOff appeared to have disappeared so I downloaded OpenOffice 4.1.7 this morning & closed down & restarted the computer - no change.

I realise that the above does not give much information, but I should be much obliged if anyone could point me in the right direction.

How are you trying to add these items, and what happens when you try; are there error messages?

Also, as a test: can you Save a document to your desktop?

Thank you for such a speedy response.
If I open a folder, then select > new item > open doc. text > the bottom existing text folder is highlighted.

I can copy a folder to the desktop & open it there.

As John_Ha suggests, this is a permissions problem, which must be resolved outside of OpenOffice by telling the Operating System (Windows) to give permissions to OpenOffice to Save its files in your target directory(s).

What anti-virus are you using?

Please post a screen shot of this. I assume that you're clicking "New Item" in the ribbon of File explorer, but "open doc.text" is not something I would expect to see after clicking "New Item".
