[Solved] Cannot install ver 4.1.7

Post by rneidert »

ISOLVED
am running Windows 10 ver 1909 and have been running Openoffice ver 4.1.5 and wanted to update, but every time I run the setup, after a few minutes, I get a message to "exit Openoffice 4.1.7 and the Openoffice 4.1.7 Quickstarter before you continue.", but when I click OK I get another message that says the installation was interrupted before Openoffice 4.1.7 could be completely installed. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.
I have already completely uninstalled ver 4.1.5.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

In the system tray (where your clock is), right click the blue orb of OpenOffice and exit it.
Then relaunch the install process.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the *EDIT button if your issue has been fixed.

Just to the right of the question mark icon on the right side of the image you posted there is an arrowhead pointing up. Click on that and see if there is an OpenOffice icon in there. If so, right click on it and exit or stop the process.

Open the Task Manager and look for all of the soffice processes on the Details tab. Click on each of those and then select End Task. Then try installing.

You have several programs (including winpatrol) running during the installation. Have you checked to see of one of those might be interfering with the installation?

Winpatrol is simply monitoring applications and programs. I also turned off my antivirus program and VPN.
The only Openoffice programs running are associated with the installation, (see attachment), but I tried deleting all of the IOBit ones anyway. Still will not install.

Sorry, but I don't know what those "IOBit ones" are. I never saw anything like that when I used Windows. Are you running some IOBIt program? I seem to recall that there was an IOBit uninstaller.

Okay, I found the source folder for the soffice_IOBit "things" and it was a folder called Openoffice4. When I opened the folder there was another folder called "Program".
I looked at another computer I have that is running Openoffice and there were a lot more folders and files in "Openoffice4".
I restarted the computer and without opening anything else, went directly to the Setup program and it worked fine. When I went back to the Openoffice4 folder there were the same folders and files as on my other computer.
Apparently when I uninstalled 4.1.5 not all of the folders were deleted.
I have no idea what the soffice_IOBit things were or why they were open, but apparently they were the problem.

As a guess, I'd say that you used IOBIt Uninstaller to uninstall AOO 4.1.5 and IOBit Uninstaller required a system restart to finish the uninstall.

Yes, I did, but usually Uninstaller tells you that you need to restart to finish the uninstall. I also always check the option to remove all associated files during the uninstall.
Another question, how do I mark this is "resolved" or "closed"? I don't see an option for that.
Thanks.
