Read Error - Unsupported Excel Format

Post by kanggek »

Hey there,
Anyone can help me with my AOO files (which i save in .xls mode) suddenly it can't opened and there's a pop up notification said 'General Error in Input/Ouput' (sorry i forgot the notif details). The file contains with office documents and it's urgent and HIGH PRIORITY so I daily used it everyday and everytime.

Then, in trying to fix it, (I already read reviews here and any google references) I updated my AOO into 4.1.7 version.
With that version, I reopened the AOO file and new pop up notification showed up! It said 'Read Error - Unsupported Excel Format'
So now i register here, and pls kindyly need your help guys.

I tried again using Repair Corrupted Excel program, it works but many data has lost.
I really need it to be opened and found no cells lost.

Pls pls pls help.
BIG THANKS

If you insist on saving in the Excel format, you will be better off with LibreOffice, it offers better support for that format.
OpenOffice 4.1.11 on Ubuntu; LibreOffice 6.4 on Linux Mint, LibreOffice 7.6.2.1 on Ubuntu

1. Upload the file so it can be examined.

2. See [Tutorial] Differences between Writer and MS Word files for a description of differences and for why you should always work in, and save Writer files as, .odt, and spreadsheet files as .ods.

3. See [Tutorial] How to find and un-delete AOO temporary files for detailed instructions (follow the .doc instructions) on how to

a) use Previous Versions (W7 and later) to recover previous versions of the file (is there something similar on MacOS and Linux?);

b) recover your file as it was when you last opened or saved it, or as it was when it was last saved with AutoRecovery;

c) find previous versions of the file in the folder it is located in, but which have since been deleted.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
