[Solved] Firebird database issue

Post by charlie.it »

Ciao to all :D .
I open Libre Office Base, choose Connect to an existing database Firebird file, then Create new.
Then Save as (Firebird type) and then Finish and Save as (.odb type).
Then I edit my tables, my queries and my forms.
When I exit, I save the database (.odb).
But if I open it again I get a connection error.
If I open a new database (.odt) linking it to the saved Firebird file, the connection works, but so I lost query and forms.
This happens with each new opening.
Am I wrong? thank you.

[Create New] creates a new Firebird database (an *.fdb file) and connects a new database document to that external database. This is a very good feature because it allows you to create backend and frontend separated from each other.

After starting the wizard another time, pushing the [Browse] button lets me connect a new Base document to the same database (same *.fdb). Now I have 2 Base documents connected to the same database.

I can open both databases without connection error ... UNLESS I use the wrong office suite. My ppa version of LibreOffice 6.0 does not support Firebird out of the box. LO 6.2 in my /opt directory handles these databases.

Thank you for your reply which confirms that I have not made any mistakes.
I use LO 6.2.1.2 on macOS, however the first .odb database, when I open it after the first time goes into connection error.

and the LO version is always the same? I have tried to reproduce the issue with LO 6.2.3.2 but my default application is LO 6.0 (Ubuntu). When I double-click on a database document which is connected to an external fdb file, then I get the following error because my LO 6.0 does not support this connection.
The connection to the external data source could not be established. No SDBC driver was found for the URL 'sdbc:firebird:file:///tmp/FB_New.fdb'.
everything works as expected when I open the file with LO 6.2 explicitly.

I discovered my mistake, when I opened the database the second time, it opens with the default Open Office suite (I know it doesn't work with Firebird). Sorry and thanks.
