Database

Post by Randyz »

Hello all thanks for having me.
I use open office for my customers information in my Auto Repair shop. What I would like to do is set up a database that when customers come in or repeat customers come back, I want to have blocks for name , address, phone, type of vehicle, vin #, email. And when repeat customers come back I would like to have all their visits and work under the same name or vehicle in the same place. Can I do any of these things?

First off: Welcome to the Open Office Help Forum
As to your query, all of what you have specified is possible using a database, and I'm glad to see that you recognize a database is the right aspect of Open Office to use.
Many people start off using Calc, which is a spreadsheet, rather than a proper database.
If you don't have any experience with database structure, then you are in for a steep learning curve, but I feel it will be worthwhile.
I am still in the process of learning how to write/work with databases, so I won't actually be of much technical use.
That said, I would like to suggest you look at some of the database tutorials located here
There are also some YouTube videos that I found by searching Google for the term "Open Office Base Tutorials"

You'll probably get more/better help by posting your queries in the Base section of the forum, which is located here
OpenOffice 4.1.7, LibreOffice 7.0.1.2 on Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate & Windows 10 Home (2004)
