Connecting table to report

Post by JACK SCHMIDLING »

I am trying to transition from a very old version of Works and OO and am stuck hard.

I set up a small table and then built a report but can't figure out how to connect the two.

The best I have done so far is to print a report in the format I made but it just contains Latin junk instead of my table.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum
Assuming you are using the built in Report builder that comes with Base open the report in the Design Mode (right click on the report and select Edit).
Along the bottom of the report window click on the Form Navigator icon (usually 6th from the left).
In the Form Navigator dialog right click on Report Source and select Properties.
In the Form Properties dialog select the Data tab.
For Content Type select Table.
Then for Content select the name of your table from the list of available tables.
<Ctrl>S should Save the report form, then Close it.
Now run the report.
If you still get garbage then I would suggest you upload a sample database so one of the volunteers could look at your problem.

Be aware that the built in Report builder has limited capabilities but the Oracle Report Builder extension has more features.

Got to the of instructions and got the same garbage instead of my list.

Understand why I stuck to works. Take about 3 clicks to set up a data base. Unfortunately, no one else can read the files.
We sorting through rubble from a disasterous fire a data base would be a big help.

I am attaching the odb and two odt files.

r33 has proper layout but Latin garbage
r331 looks good but prints most of it off the page
new datebase is the odb file

I think the other persons do not use OpenOffice. Tell them they should download and use OpenOffice.

Any office document can be exported to PDF which is readable on every device.
PDF is not an editable office format so keep your original documents.

r331 looks good but prints most of it off the page

is caused by the report form being wider than the page size set in Format->Page.

As to the Latin, it is a nonsensical phrase traditionally used by printers as a place holder.

I just downloaded Oracle Report Builder, installed it into LO 6.x, then opened up my file, then Insert > Report...Created report with two fields (I've done LO Base Reports before so I know what I am doing).

The above error is what I get...

Does Oracle Report Builder (ca. 2007) work with newer versions of LibreOffice?

It complains it "Cannot open Business Contacts.odt", but yet in Queries everything is just working as was befor .oxt installation.

The report builder is part of LibreOffice. No need to install anything.
