Re: [Solved] Database unable to open

Post by Hendrie »

Hi -just discovered this forum. I hope you can help.

I have occasion to use an OpenOffice database just a few times a year. Unfortunately when I used it today there was a problem.

The OpenOffice database refused to save and when I restarted the computer the database could not be loaded. Error message said something about a connection not being able to be made.

I discovered that I had SysInfo Tool v1.0 on my computer (bought some time ago) so used it (apparently successfully) to repair the database.

Now when I try to load the repaired database it tells me that I should be User: SA

Any suggestions most welcome.

Fingers crossed I now seem to have recovered the data from the last backup file that wasn't O kb in length.

I cannot open my database, even though it has been opened and closed several times this past week. Today it asks for Filter Options when opening the file. If the Base file is opened using OpenOffice Writer, it consists of 7,600 pages with only readable English in the last 7 pages (beginning with mimetypePK and database/logPK). The .obd.lck file was not deleted when I closed the database the last time and then quit Apache OpenOffice. On all occasions previously when power has been disrupted, Apache OpenOffice was able to recover the file on start-up.

The last update for macOS (High Sierra 10.13.3) was on Feb 8, 2018; OpenOffice has been very unstable (unexpected shut downs) since then. Sometimes the base file has been open (and was recovered) and sometimes it was not open.

Any help to recover this database will be much appreciated.

vayaplaya and/or nhsome3:

Since you cannot open your Base file ( *.odb ) . . . if you post your file here, or, some other file sharing link ( such as MediaFire https://www.mediafire.com/ ) so I can determine if I might be able to open the file ( at least the database portion ) . . . I will try to help.

The above file link you gave, is extremely small in size ( 1536 bytes ) and, according to MediaFire, was uploaded 2013-11-19 09:40:32. Nothing internal to the file can be recovered . . . that is . . . changing to a zip file and repairing.

Thanks,
Did not have much data. But it will take me a while to recreate all table designs. I have no idea on why it list that date. I just set up an account and uploaded it.

I was able to 'restore' the database contents, that is, the HSQL 1.8.0.10 ( Embedded Database ), BUT, I was not able to recover any Queries, Forms, or, Reports.

In your database, the table "EventDescriptionTable1" contains 8104 records.

What should I now do with it, so, you can get it, assuming you want it?

I do want it. The queries, forms and reports were seldom used and I can rebuild those. The data, especaily in EventDescriptionTable1 is most important to me. Thank you for your work.

Please PM ( Private Message ) me with your email address. I will send it ( the database file ) to you as an attachment. The file size ( bytes ) is now much smaller than before.

Linux?

Code: Select all

zip -F expertise_db.odb --out expertise._db.out.odb
restores the zip archive.
if not, try harder:

Code: Select all

zip -FF expertise_db.odb --out expertise._db.out.odb
(your expertise_db requires only one -F)

Now you can reconnect the document to its embedded database (which is not the case yet) or you can extract the database from the document in order to get a more stable database solution. [Python] Macro to extract and reconnect embedded HSQLDB

KbProblem:

The Base file database contents referenced above could not be recovered.

In your Base file, the database sub-directory, a data file did not exist, and, the backup file was corrupt.

In all probability you shut down your computer and the OpenOffice / LibreOffice program before it completed writing the file to the storage location. It has never happened to me, very long time I have used OpenOffice on any application.

Since I was not present when it happened to your file, I cannot say with any degree of certainty.
