Oracle JDBC Connection in Read only mode

Post by RikardSvenningsen »

Hi
Is there any way to put the: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver into read-Only mode.
I have a prebuild Oracle BASE with more than 100 table with lots of relation between tables, when I open the connection and check the relation, i can see a overwhelming numbers of relation.
My problem is that I only need to table and when I hide all other tables, then I can't see any relation on this tables.
As for now I am not in Read-Only mode so putting relation in between the tables could break the database or what?
I hope for a way to open the connection in read-only..
Best regards

There is a read-only connection setting, and it may be worth a try, but folks on the internet say it doesn't work as advertised/expected.
So, my first inclination would be to setup a "read-only user" (perhaps on the schema that contains all your tables) and connect as that user. But a quick search of the internet reveals that there's no easy way to do this in Oracle. But it can be done. I would start by reading this article:
http://decipherinfosys.wordpress.com/20 ... in-oracle/
AOO 4.1.x; LO 4.2.x; Windows 7/8 64-bit
Warning: Avoid embedded databases --> Solution: Adopt a portable 'split database' folder
Soli Deo gloria

I am to scared to try the JDBC suggestions.
I will move on doing it from ODBC.
Have done that from MS Office with Access before, now I will be doing it from OpenOffice instead.
If I can't get that into work I will make a comment her...
