MS Access opens MS Access documents only. An MS Acccess doument may embed a MS JET database or it may be connected to a wide variety of external databases.
Base opens Base documents only. A Base doument may embed HSQL database or it may be connected to a wide variety of external databases.
Just like with MS Access, you create a new database document and connect it to some external database.
File>New>Database...
Connect to existing database
Type: MS Access
Specify your Access database
Save the database document.
---------------
Now you an use the MS Access database in the context of this office suite. You can add queries, forms and reports to the database document and you can export database data into OpenOffice documents. The forms and reports that have been created in MS Access are usable with MS Access only.
