I have 4.1.8 installed
I presume I was given a choice of what to install.
So I only have the choice of Text Document and Spreadsheet when I open up.
Presentation, drawing, database and formula are faded out.
I now want to download and use database.
How do I do that please?

Re: Database
For most programs the same: Repeat the installation by calling the program installation routine again.
Use advanced/ user defined install when asked and activate the necessary checkboxes.
Your previous setup will be kept, however backups are always a good idea.
To work with databases in AOO install a 32 bit version of Java first, as the embedded database hsql requires java.

Re: Database
Thank you. Now I'm struggling with the Java. I thought I had installed the right version, but it still says it needs to be installed.

Re: Database
You need to download then install the 32 bit Java on Windows, then in OpenOffice /Tools /Options /OpenOffice /Java select the 32 bit Java you have installed. I cannot, from memory say if a reboot is needed after installing the Java on the computer, but it certainly won't hurt. Then do the OpenOffice Java install I have outlined above.
