Actuarial notation

Post by igitur »

In all the Math utilities, i'm still missing the ability to write annuity functions correctly.

Annuity functions are often used in interest / actuarial calculations.

A typycal annuity function will look something like this

Code: Select all

a
  -
  n|

meaning, a lowercase a with an n subscript, and the n has a line above and to the right of it. The two lines touch in the corner. They shouldn't be two separate lines.

n can be replaced with many things, like Tx or Kx+1 etc, and the line above it will cover the entire piece of text.

I really hoped it would appear in OpenOffice 3.0, but it seems I'm out of luck.

What can I do to help get this notation in OOo? Currently I have to do with awkward looking workarounds.

regards,
Francois

You are out of luck...
You can file an enhancement request. See here for a tutorial:

You can do that using MathType. You'd have to better define "awkward looking" though.

A workaround is to install e.g. a LaTeX maths font that has the symbol you need, and assign a custom symbol to it via Tools > Catalog

Thanks, everyone.

I'll try the suggestions after I'm finished with my *&% actuarial exams. I think there's opportunity to get into a niche market here, so I'll definitely log the request.

In the meantime, here's my awkward-looking word-around:

Code: Select all

a_{overline {T_k+1"|"} }
