Math conversion of Word formula

Post by gdd »

Hi,

A Word document contains some formulas. Writer does garble these formules in two manners. See my screenshot
Left = Word, Middle = Writer, Right = Writer with doubleclicked formula
Left = Word, Middle = Writer, Right = Writer with doubleclicked formula

1. The formulas shows up much bigger and something overlay each other. How to set the proper size (meaning identical to Word)?
2. Doubleclick destroys the code. How to avoid this?

Yes I know, conversion is not perfect and the converted math code is very complex and the first formal should be a easy: {u _{k _400V} }= left ( S _T3 over "Sk''" _net times 100"%" right) + u _{K _T3} = left (1 over 250 times 100"%" right) + 6"%"=6,4"%" instead of all these (generated) size attributes, but we have made a lot of these documents in MS-Word.

But the last thing I want to tell our end-users is: Create all your formulas again, its easy man :)

Try to upgrade to OOo 2.4. I just tried your file and OOo opens it perfectly!

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Did you enable the "[L]" option for MathType to OpenOffice.org Math/OpenOffice.org Math to MathType in
Tools - Options - Load/Save - Microsoft Office?
Because only then the MathType objects are converted to Math. If the option is disabled, the formulas are correctly displayed also for version 2.3.1, but cannot be edited.

Thanks both of you.

Yes Phil, I've set this flag. The problem exist on more complicated formulas.

I'll try 2.4 as Hagar suggest, just waiting for this version from the Dutch forum.

Oups, right. I thought that MS Equation editor was anyway installed and would be used for modification. I see the same issue with 2.4.

Hi,

it's really odd...
In the meantime, I tested the following:
Created a formula with MathType in MS Word 2003. When opening the .doc, the formula is displayed incorrectly independant of the [L] and [S] switch settings, and cannot be opened in both cases: General OLE error...

All this seems to be quite buggy - also see this thread.
Edit: @gdd: From what we have discussed, I fear that version 2.4 will not really do better.
