hello i am trying to write out some equations for an assignment, but im having trouble entering the hash symbol (#) if i enter it into the formula editor i get a little red question mark (i need to write Mg# = Mg over Mg + Fe (this bit in super script 2+) but like i said im having trouble with the hash sign.
any help would be appreciated.

The hash character is used as a command for alignment, especially in matrices. The way to get it accepted as a 'normal' character is to use quotes.
"#" means use it as a character, not as a command.
