Hopefully a not too stupid question.
I've searched the manual and the forums, but couldn't find a solution for this behavior hence my question.
When I create a subscript e.g.
x_i
the underscore isn't visible in the window where you enter the formula.
This makes it very difficult to distinguish an underscore from a blank space.
Does anyone know whether this can be solved by changing a settings or whether this is a bug ?
Thank you very much in advance.
John

Windows XP, OO v3. I see it clearly.

Re: Strange thing creating subscripts
It may be caused by faulty display or wrong display settings.
Try using a lower screen resolution.
Some flat screens (and most projectors) will handle resolutions higher than that of the display panel. if you're using a resolution higher than that hardware resolution, the display electronics may "simulate" the chosen resolution. This will cause loss of detail, and that loss may happen to be at the position of your underscore.
Try moving the Math window up/down, or typing the same text on a new line, and see if the underscore shows.

Thanks all for replying.
I'm using OpenOffice 3.0.0 OOO300m9 (Build:9358).
Novell build.
OS : Windows Vista 64-bit.
Screen resolution is the "normal" resolution of the LCD display (1680 x 1050).
With StarOffice 8 Update 12 the problem doesn't occur.
So I'm wondering whether this is a bug that is specific for the Novell build.

Re: Strange thing creating subscripts
Hi,
I have now installed the Novell build of OpenOffice on a 32-bit XP system.
Same behavior.
It isn't possible to see the _ in formulas.
Does anyone else see this behavior with this build ?
Another question.
As someone mentioned here he hasn't the problem with the regular version of OpenOffice I'm in doubt whether to install this version or not.
Is there anyone who has experience with both versions and can tell the difference where one would be better than the other ?
Thank you very much in advance.

Some information here: OpenOffice.org 3.0 Novell Edition for Windows released!. Yuo should also find some reviews comparing both version on the web.
Personally, I would install the Sun's version.
