[Solved] Chemical Equations

Post by TomDo »

I need help in writing chemical equations.
I can get the mathematical equations down right, but the text part of the chemical equation is where I am having trouble.
ex.
(1,000 Lbs NaCl) (0.0044 Lbs H2 / 0.2577 Lbs NaCl) = 17.0771 Lbs H2

I need to add spaces in the text part.
Other wise it looks like 0.2577LbsH2 { the 2 is super script}

Or is this the best the Equation Editor can do and I am left not using it?

Any help and insight will be most helpful

Tom

You can use the ~ character to denote spaces. Try

Code: Select all

(1,000 Lbs ~NaCl) (0.0044 Lbs ~H_2 ~/ ~0.2577 Lbs ~NaCl) ~=~ 17.0771 Lbs ~H_2
OpenOffice 4.1 on Windows 10 and Linux Mint

Thank You FJCC

I also figured it out with two other ways'
\text{ Lbs 2NaOH }
\(Space Bar)
also works
I also found the text part, I felt so ignorant when I did.

I worked on this for weeks the today It came to me what to do.
I hope this helps any one else who had the same issue.

Thank you again!!!

The gold standard for mathematical and other equations which academics and scientists use for published scientific papers is the free LaTeX.
LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system; it includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation. LaTeX is the de facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents. LaTeX is available as free software.
