Eraser?

Post by HaRo »

I want to rub out bits of drawing, but I can't find an eraser tool of the type that MS Office has. Is there one?

Draw is a program to edit vector graphics contrary to bitmaps which can be edited with countless other programs. In a vector graphic you select some element (line or shape) and modify or delete that element.

Which MS Office application is it you are thinking of?

Note that with common drawing applications, you "paint a canvas" and an eraser can clean a specific part of the canvas.
As Villeroy also indicated: With Draw (as well as some other drawing applications) you spread objects out across the layout area. "Erasing" in this context will remove entire objects.

To get the "rub out" effect in your common "object oriented" drawing app, you need to either overlay an object which is the same color as the background or cut away parts of an object (using a new shape as a "cutaway template").

Bottom line:
There are advantages to the "paint on canvas" approach, and other advantages to the "collage" approach. Use whatever works for you.

So there isn't an eraser.
In a vectorgraphic application - like the Draw - the Del button is the "eraser".

Or you can make some transformations of the selected vectorgraphic objects. It sometimes means a kind of erasing the parts:
