[Solved] Need Help Rotating a Text Box

Post by skuddle »

I can rotate a text box using the Position and Size but not by clicking on the text box and rotating it. From page 170 of the Draw guide version 4.3:

6) To quickly rotate a text box, click again on a selection handle to change the shape and
color of the selection handles. Click and drag on a corner handle to rotate the test box, then
release the mouse button when the text box is at the desired rotation angle. A ghosted
outline of the text box being rotated appears and the current angle of rotation is shown in
the status bar (Figure 203).

I created a text box and entered some text, then I followed the above instruction, but when I click a corner selection handle the cursor turns into a diagonal 2-way arrow instead. And the selection handles are not the green squares but are red diamonds. What am I doing wrong?

Windows 10
OpenOffice 6.1.2.1
I suppose that you are using the LibreOffice, but not the Apache OpenOffice

The rotation function works for me in my LO 6.1.2

You must click twice on the selection border (not double click, but you need wait a second between the clicks): the corner markers will be changed from square to diamonds and the color of the markers also will changed. Then click on a corner marker, and you will able to rotate the shape.

Well I guess I spoke too soon.

I opened LO Draw, drew a text box, entered some text, and then clicked outside the text box to deselect it.

Then I clicked the text box, waited for one second, and clicked again. The borders did not change and I was not able to rotate the box. I tried several times with varying delays but the border would not change. Why not?

Here is a video about the rotation of the shapes in the Draw application.

And please update your signature in this forum.
The 6.x.x version _is_ LibreOffice but not Apache OpenOffice.

Zizi64,

Thank you for the link that you posted - I found it very helpful. I downloaded all 48 of the LO Draw videos, and I think they will also be very helpful.
