[Solved] Drawing a square within a square

I have installed the latest version of Office draw. When I try to insert a square within a square it jumps to the outside square. Also if I try to draw a close parallel line that too jumps to the original line. This never happened with the old version is there a setting I can use to correct this frustrating problem?

G'day, and welcome to the community forum.
It may be Snap to Grid causing your issue. With a Draw window open, go to Tools | Options | | OpenOffice Draw | Grid and uncheck Snap to Grid.
If you do need the functionality of Snap to Grid, the Help - F1 - says "If you have activated the snap grid but wish to move or create individual objects without snap positions, keep the Shift key pressed to deactivate this function for as long as needed."

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the
AOO Manuals. May I suggest you bookmark the pages.
Press F1 to access the
Help screen and search for your problem
When a pop-up window opens, click the
Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

When I try to draw a rectangle within a rectangle the line snaps to the original lines
Edit: Merged with earlier topic as discussion has shifted to there [robleyd, moderator] |

Is this the same issue as your post a few years ago?

Problem solved but looks like with the version I have there is no box to uncheck but holding down the ctrl. key when drawing a rectangle inside another has the same result. Thanks.

Copy the first square, hit Esc to unselect and paste.
Now you have 2 identical squares, one above the other, the one on top being selected.
Hit F4 for the Position/Size dialog.
On that dialog, click the center base points for position and size.
Check "Keep ratio".
Change the size.
Confirm "OK"

I don't think the option to change snap to grid has changed much in OpenOffice Draw since your question in 2018. Tools | Options | OpenOffice Draw | Grid will give you this:
- drawgrid.png (54.01 KiB) Viewed 3513 times
Even if you are using LibreOffice, it is essentially the same.
