New version does not display graphic

Post by LeeClinkscales »

Opening an .odg file in version 4.1.3 does not display an imported graphic. The file was created in version 3.3.0 and the graphic still displays properly with that version. We are upgrading from Windows XP to 7, and naturally installed that latest version of Open Office on the new system. The O/S does not matter, though. I have loaded version 3.3.0 on the Windows 7 system and the graphic displays properly. In version 4.1.3, there is the outline of a box where the graphic should be, and a small grey square with three overlapping colored squares inside it, and also three red dots to the right of that. There is no error message.

I do not remember how the graphic was imported, but it does not appear to have been by linking a file, but rather by copy and paste.

We have many files affected by this, so remaking or editing each one is something we want to avoid.

Thank in advance.

What filetype of the graphics was embedded into the .odg file?
Can you upload an example .odg file here with the embedded graphic? The file size limit is 128 KiB in this forum but you can share the larger files by usage a free file sharing service (like the google drive).

Have you tried open the file with the latest LibreOffice Still version?

1 Tools > Options > Writer > View > tick View Graphics and objects - this is for Writer.

2 Is the graphic a linked image and the image is no longer in the specified location so cannot be found? See [Tutorial] Some useful hints on using images for a discussion.

3 Drag a graphic (JPG or PNG or GIF) into the Draw document. Does it display? I think there may be problems where SVG?? and/or EPS?? files do not display.

4 Upload a small file with the problem so it can be looked at.

If this solves the problem, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.
