Inserting images in Draw

Post by janetmyatt »

Hi, I'm having trouble inserting images into the draw program now that I've updated to Office 2016 on Windows 10. When I had a Windows 7 Office 2010 system, I could easily insert an image into my document. Now, if I have any text boxes in my doc, the image automatically gets inserted into the text box - even though the box is not selected. Can't find a way to get it to stop doing this. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Are you actually using OpenOffice? This forum is intended for queries relating to OpenOffice and related programs; Office 2012 and Office 2016 are completely different programs and beyond our remit.

I am having the same problem as described above, but i am actually using OO. I updated to 4.1.3 yesterday and now i am having the problem in Draw that if there is a text box on screen when i insert an image from file it becomes the backgound of that text box (tiled image)

The only way i can avoid this happerning is to the page over to the side so it is off screen. Then it imports correctly.

Yes i have made sure to de-select the text box before inserting the image file.
This also only seems to occur after editing the text in a textbox. Going to a new page which i wasnt editing - but with the same set up (eg textbox with text) - and the image is imported correctly (and placed over the text box until moved), as long as i dont edit the text box.

Im prettly sure this is a bug where it thinks i have not de-selected the text box because if i do select a textbox and open the file the image appears as the background which i believe is intended behaviour.

Unless there is some way i am supposed to be removing focus from the text box other than clicking on empy space and making sure it does not have its 'selection outline' visable.
Hope this makes sense and hope there is a fix, apart from my current work around.

Thanks.

This is a known bug in recent versions of AOO.

I expect it will be fixed in the upcoming release (AOO 4.1.4, due out any day now).

The only workaround I'm aware of is to create a new, empty page in the drawing, paste the image there, then cut/paste the image from there into the desired page; copy/cut and page within Draw works as expected.

Thanks for the infomation. Good to know its going to be fixed.

By the way what is the max dimension or file size of an imported file. When trying to import a file 10000 x 7500 i get the message "Graphics filter not found"

Sorry, I recall that there are some limits to image size but I don't remember what they are.

Can you not use a smaller image?

i can scale the image down, but it is a bit of a hassel to have an extra image just for importing into Draw (when i want to keep the original).
