Incomplete instructions.

Post by ferren »

The instructions for moving objects between layers in Draw say:

"Drawings in OpenOffice Draw support layers.
1. Click and hold the object until its edges flash."

Sometimes this works. Other times I get a crossed circle on the cursor and it doesn't work, but the instructions say nothing about this. Since this appears to be the more common outcome, might it not might profitably have an explanation as item 2 in the How To list?

Drawings in LibreOffice Draw support layers.

1. Click and hold the object until its edges flash.
2. Drag the object to the name tab of the layer you want to move it to.
3. Release the object
Nothing flash in my LO 4.4.3, but after a single left click on an object (I am holding the mouse button for two second) and when I start to dragging the object, it will showed a little rectangle near the mouse pointer, and I can drag the object onto TAB of an another layer.

Same in Apache OpenOffice on Windows. I think holding for half a second is enough. No indication (flashing, or change of mouse pointer) until you move the mouse. (In LibreOffice on Linux the mouse pointer changes spontaneously, as it should.)

I think the crossed circle is the mac cursor for range selection. If so, it probably means that you missed the object. Note that if you have an object with only lines (without fill), you must point exactly on a drawn line.

You can also use cut/paste to move objects between layers.

Drag/drop can be quicker once you get the hang of it, but using the clipboard is more straightforward.
