Mouse Zoom & Pan: Changing Default Behaviour?

Post by HermanVOI »

Is there any way to change the default behavior of the mouse wheel zoom so that it targets the mouse cursor position and not the center of the page?
Is there a lasso-style zoom that I can instantiate with a key combination, à la AI / CorelDRAW / Xara, etc?
Is there any way to pan with a clutch key, à la AI's SPACEbar pan?
I decided to give OODraw a try because of its connector lines and glue points but I'm finding the UI really slow and frustrating.

You can zoom on an object through toolbar and its dedicated button

Toolbars are precisely what I'm trying to avoid.

As far as I know, none of your requested UI shortcuts are easily achievable in Draw. Most likely all are possible, but would involve some macro programming. Whether they would then work smoothly is another issue...

For basic drawings I find Draw very good. The UI may feel clunky at times, and there are also a few additions I would like to see for drawings (e.g. crossing lines auto-skip in diagrams, grouped objects in the gallery maintaining layer info for grouped elements).

This is the first hit on Google searching for "OpenOffice pan" I just want to add a tip:

Create two shortcut keys, one for pan and one for whole page zoom.

Select Tools > Customize > Keyboard
Scroll down and select a nice key combo Alt-Z (for example)
Select View - Move
Click Modify

Select a new key combo (Alt-X)
Select View - Whole page
Click Modify - OK

This will give you quick pan and whole page functions. The tools is available from Zoom menu in toolbar, this is just a shortcut.

Since my installation of OpenOffice is in Swedish I´m not sure this is the correct menu names, please confirm!
