Draw Export to jpg as default

Post by gsslay »

Hi. I have a questions about the drawing export to jpg format.

How do I make jpg my default export format? Every single time I do an export it defaults to png and I have to select jpg. From what I've read, it suggests that once you select jpg for one export, it will default to this the next time. But in my experience this is not the case. You can export a page to jpg, and then immediately go to export it a second time, and the format will be back at png.

It would save me so much time if I didn't have to change this with every single export.

Thanks.

I don't think it remembers the previous format. I have to change it every time, too.

No way to change that, as far as I'm aware.

That's disappointing. I wonder who decided that png was going to be the favoured format? I just prefer jpgs for the work I'm doing.

Thanks for the reply. Always good to know you are not alone!

PNG is lossless whereas JPG is a lossy format.
Better avoid a format that loses information by default.

I would be happy if mine defaulted to .png - but mine is stuck on PCT which is a Mac format - and I'm running Windows! - this was the same in previous versions of Open Office

I note there is a basic 'Save as pdf' choice - can that be customised to png somewhere.

Surely a failing in the programming not to allow a default to be set by the user

If the setting is "stuck" you may need to start a fresh settings profile: [Tutorial] The OOo user profile

PS: First, be sure that you're using File > Export, and make sure that you have all the graphics file support filters installed (see that PNG appears in the list of available image formats).

That rather depends on what you are doing, doesn't it? I'm fine with OO initially picking what it thinks is the best as a default. But it should then pay attention when the user decides otherwise.

But BeeCee's experience is noteworthy. I'm sure at one point Draw did remember what you last selected. So it looks like in BeeCee's case it has remembered, but now refuses to change what is remembered.

This looks like a bug to me.

As a workaround, you can create macros (one for each file format) that would replace the save button.
