Dimension Lines attached to objects

It would be very useful to be able to attach a dimension line to an object so that when you changed the shape and size of an object then the dimension line would also change. Is this possible?

This doesn't seem to be possible, however, if you select the dimension line and the object and resize them together, then they will remain in sync.

This is reported as an issue (feature request) in OpenOffice issue tracker. It seems that it hasn't attracted much developer interest, though. You can vote for it if you are a registered user in that system.
For single object dimensions, Bhikkhu Pesala's solution works fine. For added convenience, you can group the dimension lines with the object.
