Connection to objects in a group

Post by ilyasivkov »

Hi,
I have created several objects and grouped them. After that I tried to start a connection line from the one of it, but I can start in only from center points of the group bounding box. How can I use connection points of the objects in a group?

Thanks.

Sorry, as far as I can tell, it's not possible.

Here's a relevant issue: Issue 7575: Maintain connection points when grouping objects

The only workaround I know of is to set manual glue points on the group. However, glue points on a group object are relative to the group's outline only, not relative to group "members". This means that if you rearrange the objects within the group, you have to manually move the glue point accordingly. (I suppose you may already have guessed that. Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious...)

I was wondering if that was possible.

Do you know what happens to "group gluepoints" if you ungroup the objects?

The group is an "encapsulation object". Ungrouping will delete that object, and with it, all glue points attached to the group will disappear.

I don't know it that's an exact description of the inner workings of Draw, but that's my conception of it, and all my experience on the matter supports that notion...
