Post by JamesEJ »

It appears from what you have said that you were able to open a blank Draw document using /File /New /Drawing from within an open other document - or am I misunderstanding?

Attached is a trivial drawing file. Download it, then right click on any of the elements and see if you can modify them from the popup context menu.

Now the mechanics. All that I need to do is to draw a simple square. How to?

From earlier in the topic.
John_Ha wrote:You will find much useful information in the Draw User Guide which has extensive instructions on how to use Draw.
Make sure View | Toolbars | Drawing is enabled and you'll see a handy toolbar with drawing tools, including rectangle. Also take RoryOF's advice about right clicking on elements of your Draw document.

Once you have enabled /View /Toolbars /Drawing, it should appear at bottom of your Draw screen. Clicking on any shape in that toolbar will allow you insert one instance of that shape. Double clicking a shape will change the cursor so that you may continue to draw other instances of that shape until you select another or the selection arrow at far left of the toolbar. Holding down the shift key while you draw a rectangle or ellipse will constrain that to be a square or a circle. Right clicking on a drawn item will pop up a context menu that will allow you change various attributes, such as fill ("area") and line weight/colour.

All that information, and more, is available in the Draw users guide linked above. Please, please, at least download, and read, the first two chapters to get you started with Draw. You may then find the next two chapters helpful, depending on what you need to do.

Is the draw screen that is spoken of, the one that is inside the ruled borders?

Page 4 of Introducing Draw mentions "The main components of the Draw interface are shown in Figure 1.
The large area in the center of the window is where you make the drawings." Looking at Figure 1, the area in the center of the page with a grid, shown enclosed by a frame or border, is the working area. The grid may not be visible in your environment, depending on the setting for View | Grid. See page 11. You may have some toolbars mentioned not displayed - see Toolbars starting page 7.
