[Solved] Select function unstable on 4.1.7/Win10

Post by kenmac2 »

Hi folks,
I have been using version 4.1.7 (Draw) on Win 10 for a while.
Recently I had trouible when selecting items on Draw - it would select then unselect before any action can occur.
The same happens with moving an object - it will not stick the select action and tends to jump to another object, making the whole thing very unstable!
I tried the same program on an XP machine and it is OK.
Also, I loaded an earlier version (2.3) onto the Win 10 PC and that is also OK.
It may be that this is something that may have been caused by a recent Windows 10 update?
Anyway, I am surviving by using the earlier version for now.
Anybody have an answer to this?

Does this happen regardless of selection mode?
  • Simple click? (to select topmost)
  • Alt+click? (to select next in stack)
  • Shift+click? (to select multiple ; add to selection)
  • Click+drag? (select all inside area)
Is it only with Draw, or do you get it with drawn objects in other apps?

It occurs any time i click on a Drawing object to either copy or move it.
I haven't noticed a problem in Write - select seems to work OK there.
I thought it may have been a problem with my laptop but the fact that the earlier version is OK denies that.

Hi folks,
I have found the cause of this problem.
It turned out to be a malfunctioning wireless trackball.(Logitech)
When I substituted a USB mouse all worked OK.
I prefer to use a trackball when working with the Draw program - it is more precise.
Fortunately I had a spare available, so that has replaced the faulty one.

I agree about use of a trackball - have used them since the early 80s. Take your trackball to pieces and clean it out - it can gather dust/fluff, not only on the ball bearing points, but internally on the switch heads.
