New Project - OpenOffice Lite 1.0 - Call for applicant

Post by uu4 »

OpenOffice needs to lead the world by creating a NON-bloatware.

Leader for this innovation is sought.

Goal:
Cross-platform lightweight office suite that will load in 1 second.

Key principle:
No Java or Macro involved

Also wanted:
Project coordinator for New OpenOffice Light 1.0.0

Planned release date of beta: February 2018

App size needs to be under 10MB

Thank you for your attention.

Do you will purge the source code??? :D

Otherwise there is (there was) such project:
https://ooo4kids.en.softonic.com/

Key principle:
No Java or Macro involved
The developers of the LibreOffice make effort to reduce the Java dependent of the office suite.

But: an industrial Office suite without Macros and API? It is a nonsense...

Goal:
Cross-platform lightweight office suite that will load in 1 second.
My LO 4.4.7 load in 2 seconds with a new empty Calc file, and the Andrew Pitonyak's 9.12 MiB size "OOME_3_0.odt" Writer file with macros and many pictures load for me in 20 seconds.
Tibor Kovacs, Hungary; LO7.5.8 /Win7-10 x64Prof.
PortableApps/winPenPack: LO3.3.0-7.6.2;AOO4.1.14

AOO 4.1.5 Writer loads and presents a new empty text document ready for editing in about two seconds on Windows 7, 2 x 2.6 GHz CPU and a SSD.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

wordview_de-de.exe is a viewer for word documents by Microsoft. It can view but not edit two file formats doc and rtf.
excelviewer.exe displays nothing but xls spreadsheets.
PowerpointViewer displays nothing but ppt presentations.
Then there is another slim program FileConverter.exe which is needed to display docx, xlsx and pptx in the other three programs.
The 4 programs allow you to view (not edit) rtf, doc(x), xls(x) and ppt(x) without macro execution.

And now for the sizes:
ExcelViewer.exe 75MB
FileFormatConverters.exe 38MB
PowerPointViewer.exe 26MB
wordview_de-de.exe 25MB

And this is the specification of our office documents: http://standards.iso.org/ittf/PubliclyA ... 1_2015.zip (Open Document Specification 1.2).

And then there's also Abiword
https://www.abisource.com/
The last Version of Abiword for Windows was 2.9.4 and is 9,4MB installer size.
Due to lack of Windows developers on the project, there is no Windows version available for download of the newer Releases. (For Linux: Yes)

So you can also try your luck with this project.
Win7 Pro, Lubuntu 15.10, LO 4.4.7, OO 4.1.3
Free Project: LibreOffice Songbook Architect (LOSA)
