My name is Lucrecia Llerena Guevara. I am currently researching my PhD titled “Formalized Procedure for Adopting Usability Techniques in the Open Source Software Development Process” at the Autonomous University of Madrid, with the support of Dennis E. As users of open source software, you will probably have noticed that some applications are not easy, fast and accessible to use. This research aims to provide empirical evidence to resolve many usability issues with which the OpenOffice Writer community is unfamiliar. To be able to do this, we need your help. We would like you to respond to a survey in order to identify the characteristics of the possible OpenOffice Writer user profiles.

At the end of the survey, the responses will be analysed. The results of this analysis will be shared with the OpenOffice developer community to improve the OpenOffice Writer user experience.

Please be aware that we (the forum mods) haven't verified that this is a legitimate study. Sending an email shouldn't be unsafe in itself, but you can't assume that whoever replies is who they say they are.

For what it may be worth, I noticed that the poster requests that e-mails be sent to them, yet they claim that the survey is anonymous.
In my experience anonymous surveys are done via a website that requires no identifiable information.
If the survey is limited to one per user, as some are, then a temporary tracking cookie may be used by the site to track the IP address of the person using the site.

Personally I am wary of surveys like this based on the discrepancy between anonymous and the fact that they require your e-mail address.
