28 October 2015 - The Apache OpenOffice project is pleased to announce
the immediate availability of OpenOffice 4.1.2. You can download it
from the official website http://www.openoffice.org/

If 4.1.2 doesn't show up in the righthand version selector, you should force the page to refresh or clear your browser cache.

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.2 brings stability fixes, bug fixes and
enhancements. All users of Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 or earlier are
advised to upgrade.

Important for Mac Users: there is a significant defect in 4.1.2 with the Base component on Mac OS X. If you use the Base component, including mailmerge, be aware that Base doesn't work very well on this version. For serious Base work the only solution is to downgrade to an earlier release.

Main improvements include:
* Bug fixes in Writer, Calc, Impress/Draw, Base.
* Better WebDAV and file locking support: OpenOffice is now able to
properly interact with Microsoft Sharepoint.
* Redesign of the PDF export dialog for better usability on small
laptop screens.
* Updates of underlying libraries, for better performance and increased
security.
* Security vulnerability fixes, with details eventually disclosed at the
dedicated page http://www.openoffice.org/security/bulletin.html

However, if you are working on a major project, such as a thesis, term paper, or life's work novel, consider whether it is wise immediately to change to the new version. Every release we get anguished cries for help from Users who have transition problems, sometimes even amounting to total project loss. Bear in mind the old proverb about "not changing horses midstream". If you do decide to change, please make sure you have several backups of your project as it currently stands, in case of disaster.
